Step back 5,000 years to one of the world's oldest cities. Drive north from Karachi, stop at Hala for pottery making and ajrak dyeing, then settle into Larkana for the night. The next morning, walk through the ancient streets of Mohen Jo Daro — an Indus Valley Civilisation city that flourished when Egyptians were building their first pyramids — before returning via the sacred lake of Manchar.

Depart Karachi early and drive north along the Indus Highway. Stop in Hala, the spiritual home of Sindhi crafts — visit a pottery workshop where artisans shape clay on hand-turned wheels, then watch ajrak printers block-stamp the ancient geometric patterns of this UNESCO-recognised textile art onto cotton. Continue to Larkana, arriving in time for dinner and check-in at Sambara Inn, the closest quality hotel to the Mohen Jo Daro site.

Rise early for the 30-minute drive to Mohen Jo Daro — the Great City of the Indus Valley Civilisation, built around 2500 BCE when Egypt was raising its first pyramids. Walk the excavated grid streets, the Great Bath, the granary and the assembly hall with your guide, then spend an hour at the on-site archaeological museum whose artefacts include the iconic Dancing Girl and Priest-King sculptures. Drive south to Sehwan, home of the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. If time permits, detour to Manchar Lake — Pakistan's largest freshwater lake — for a boat ride among fishing communities before continuing to Karachi.
