Lahore travelers depart at midnight, reaching Islamabad by ~5 AM. Depart Islamabad early and drive north through Nowshera and Dir, entering the dramatic Hindu Kush via the Lowari Tunnel. Emerge into the wide Chitral valley and follow the Kunar River to Chitral city. Check in, walk along the river at sunset, and spot the ancient Chitral Fort across the water.
