Sarfaranga — often written Sarfarangah — is a high-altitude cold desert on the Shigar Valley floor between Skardu and Shigar town. The dunes here are lower and wider than Katpana, running for several kilometres along the Indus, and the setting is more open — Karakoram summits ring the whole horizon. In the last two summers Sarfaranga has hosted a jeep rally and a dune-buggy festival, and it has become the accepted stop for anyone driving from Skardu to Shigar Fort or Blind Lake.
