Saling is a hillside village in Ghanche district, just off the Khaplu road, best known for a lush terraced meadow that opens above the village on the Shyok side. The setting — orchards below, wheat and buckwheat terraces on the slope, and Karakoram summits behind — is a distilled version of the Baltistan valley aesthetic, without any of the traffic of Khaplu itself. Local families welcome day visitors during the summer, and Saling has become a low-key add-on for travellers spending a night at Khaplu Palace.
