Rakaposhi plummets directly, uninterpitdetly for almost 6000 meters from its broad base of 20 kms in width alongside Nagar River. With an altitude of 7788m, its the tallest mountain on planet and highest unbroken slope on earth. After numerous attempts, finally in 1958 the first successful assent was made by a British-Pakistani expedition; reaching the summit via its south-west ridge going around the prominent Monk’s Head. Later in 1979, a Pak-Polish expedition did a successful summit via its most difficult north-west ridge.
