Lahore fort lies on the northern end of walled city of Lahore, is a splendid example of Mughal Architecture; it was partially built by Akbar in 1566 and later extended by the next three emperors. The main entrance to fort facing Badshahi Mosque and Huzoori Bagh is Alamgiri Gate was built by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir in 1673. The monumental gateway is an imposing vestibule flanked by two semi-circular bastions that have boldly fluted shafts and lotus petal bases and are crowned with domed pavilions. Akbar Gate or Masti Gate lies on the eastern side of the Lahore Fort and faces the Rim Market and Mariam Zamani Masjid which once was connected by a garden to this gate with the Mosque. Shish Mehal (Palace of Mirrors) is the most decorated palace of the fort built in 1631, embellished with Mirrors, Stucco Tracery, Guild and Pietra Dura Work; is a spacious lofty hall with a vast courtyard in Front. Moti Masjid, Diwan E Aam, Naulakha Pavilionm, Hathi Paer (elephant stairs), Ath Dara, Paein Bagh(Ladies Garden), Hamma-E-Shahi, Shah Jahan’s and Jahangir’s Quadrangle are other major attractions inside the vast fort.
