Dense Pine Forest
Cedar and blue pine slopes lining the Ushu River — the quietest belt of Upper Swat.

Pine Forest Valley of Kalam
Ushu is a wide valley of dense pine forest on the eastern side of Kalam, half an hour's drive from the Kalam bazaar into the interior of Upper Swat. The road runs alongside the Ushu River through pine and cedar, opening at Mahodand Lake — one of the most-visited alpine lakes in the country. Even on busy Kalam weekends the forest sections of Ushu stay quiet, and the valley remains the classic Kalam escape route for anyone who wants the mountain scenery without the town.
