Sharda

Ancient Village of Neelam

Sharda is the most ancient site in Neelum valley, known for its ruins of Sharda Peeth that date back to 6th century. Name “Sharda” is inspired from a Hindu Goddess ‘Saraswati’; Goddess of Learning. Sharda Peeth was an ancient university, and is still a sacred site for Hindu Pandits. Now Sharda is a small hill station, with few hotels along the riverside, offering watersports and jeep excursions to Kel & Taobut. It is almost accessible throughout the year except in extreme snowfalls and is a journey of about 2-3 hours from Keran. Maidan is a small meadow above Sharda, worth visiting in winters.
