Chaqchan Mosque

By the Shyok

Built in 1370; its the oldest mosque in Baltistan Region. It signifies the mass conversion of people from Buddhism to Islam in mid 14th century. In terms of architecture its a marvel as its perfect blend of Tibetan, Mughal and Persian Styles. Carvings in the pillars, colourful wooden ceiling and unhindered view Shyok River with a backdrop of Haldi Cones; makes it one of the most beautiful mosques in the world.
